Finding Ore in General

How do you guys go about finding ore?

I usually go about wandering with a magnifying glass and a book to write down coordinates, but I was wondering if anyone has some advanced techniques or are we all looking at rocks on the ground?

I recently watched a video by someone on GT6 ore generation, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcfcHN5r0ZY. It’s 6 months old and about the distribution of ore (ie where it spawns) and doesn’t contain any specific techniques for finding ore as far as I know.

You could also go look on a wiki for GT6 (for example, https://ftb.fandom.com/wiki/GregTech_6/Stones_and_Minerals) about where ores spawn in relation to Y levels, stone types, installed mods and stuff like that.

I don’t really know how to find ores that well either, so I’d be interested what others say on this topic.

It’s simple: I carefully roam around, pick up all stones and add a marker in Xaero’s Minimap if it’s an ore-bearing rock. I don’t add multiple markers, if two rocks are close as 50 meters.

and a book to write down coordinates

I did it in my previous game where I played without the minimap, plus I placed signs in place of rocks. That was really tedious.

You might want to try this one then.

Definitely beats using the map to keep track of ores.
