Question about Natural gas

Continuing the discussion from GregTech-6 Main Thread:

So according to this, torches shouldn’t ignite the natural gas. Yet, when I was in the midst of counting up how many natural gas sources I had, I had the most terrifying experience of my life in minecraft. Everything on fire. Has this changed since?

One more question because I made sure no lava is touching it, can lava affect the gas through walls? If so, do you know how far it can be affected? It happened again.

When I tested the Fire on my Oil Springs it was almost perpetually on fire when the Spring decided to spawn an Oil Block close to one of the Fires that didnt extinguish in time, and it just kept going and going. XD
