My mass storage is not ejecting 1/7nd dusts into my item storage. I tried having it be the only input into the system but no luck. It does place the larger dust piles where they need to go, so I’m not sure why the tiny stuff it doesn’t want to put in.
It actually merges the 72nd piles into Tiny Piles the way you have set it up, so everything is exactly as intended.
The problem isn’t the merging, it’s that those tiny dusts aren’t going to where they need to go. For example, say I’m shredding copper. I have in my storage room my copper supply already set up. I want my shredder to go to the holding item storage that I have shown, and then the one in the supply I have setup. This is because my roaster is competing with my shredder on who gets to send their outputs to the supply room. For whatever reason, even though I have a copper unit ready to recieve the tiny dusts, the item storage at the shredder does to output them to the item storage in the supply room. It will do this with other sized copper dusts, just not the tiny ones.
I must note that I have additional info that thickens the plot that I will add after this stream
This first image is a showing of my setup, just to show that I how it looks in factory, and then I made a reduction for purposes of clarity.
To give a key to my system:
A is the shredder in which is having the problem, B is the roaster and its item storages, and C is where my storehouse is.
I am able to recreate this problem, and I’ve done your standard trouble shooting which is all of the GT6 equivalents of “turning it off and turning it back on again”.
All item storages have the same exact setup, reset filter when empty, and release inventory to below item pipes. When there is a small amount of 1/72nd dusts that does not combine to a bigger dust in A’s storage, then it gets stuck in that storage. Oddly enough, B’s item storages do not have this problem, it will go to C’s destination no problem. I can’t figure out why A’s item storage behaves differently than B’s. I’ve made sure B is not running so that it doesn’t have to content with A, and I’ve already made sure the pipe’s are empty before putting in item’s in A’s item storage.
So the Issue is that:
- the Shredder sometimes outputs Tiny Copper Dust quickly followed by 72nd Copper Dust
- which then gets stuck in its Filter, since it tries to turn 72nd into Tiny Piles
- which means its Filter will not reset until enough 72nd Piles arrive at that Mass Storage to make a whole Tiny Pile.
- and typically that Shredder wont output enough 72nd Piles for it to ever do that, so it’s stuck forever now.
The Inherent Flaw in your Design is that you do not take account of the Mass Storages intentionally piling up Dusts, which in case of your Shredder, will basically always get you stuck with your Design.
The Roaster does not get Stuck because it always outputs the same Size of Dust no matter what, since its Recipes always have the same Output Pile Size.
To solve this Issue in your Setup, replace the Mass Storage below your Shredder with a GT6 Hopper that has 5 or more Slots. That will fix it and keep your Setup running as intended.
You’re the best Greg, thank you so much.
