Greg just told me that he’s created something similar to the Storage Drawers controller!
Now you can create a wall of GT item barrels and mass storage, and right click on the Storage Inserter and it will put away anything in your inventory into matching barrels! It doesn’t clear your hotbar, it just clears inventory.

He said you can’t pipe items in, so if you want piping you’ll need to connect the rear of the barrels with item pipes as usual. It also only operates in straight lines, so no turning corners.
Other caveats:
If there are empty barrels, it may take anything it finds in your inventory, excluding the hotbar.
Dust compaction happens (ie: small dusts combined).
It can also be placed in the floor at a corner and put away correctly!

Yeah the thing has some absurd restrictions, straight walls, air blocks in front of all drawers, flat floor in front of the wall of drawers, and at least one Item Barrel or Mass Storage per Meter.
It goes up 7 high from the floor.
It goes really far wide but only when placed in the corner like this. I have 20 item barrels now filled.
