Coke Oven upgrading option

Recently I’ve been out of luck trying to find a source of Oil, but I do find large amounts of Oil Shale. Thus a problem appears: Coke Ovens are sooooooo slow.

To be specific, I think the main issue is not necessarily the basic speed being slow, but the lack of upgrading options. Most machines in GT supports tier-based overclocking, and also the option of providing more energy (as close to current tier maximum as achievable) for more speed. Coke Oven supports neither.

While some may argue that Coke Ovens are meant for early game, I don’t think that’s entirely the case. They’re essential for making good use of those vast amounts of Oil Shale. They also give a nice x2 bonus for Coals, which combined with Fluidized Bed makes a good source of HU with nice complexity&reward, if not for the scalability issue arising from such slow Coke Ovens.

If I did the maths correctly, to support a Distillation Tower running at full speed, ~28 Coke Ovens are needed.

For detailed suggestions, perhaps a 5x5x5 “large” version could be added, which comes with larger throughput. It could also use some mid-game resources, like Chrysotile for insulation, etc.

Or you could even make it accept HU/t for improved speed or yield.

Just making sure that you factored it into your calculations, there is 16 processes running in one go, did you factor that in? I made the thing dozens of times faster than the railcraft coke oven for a reason.

Yes I did. Initially I forgot that and get 450. Then I realized something’s off and managed to divide that by 16.

yeah i looked at the recipe and 10x-ed the Oil per Shale, it was definitely not worthwhile before. So 3 Coke Ovens per your calculations.
