Advice how to start using nuclear power?

I really want to progress to using GT6 nuclear. I just have no idea where to start!

Anyone have advice on how to get started? Key concepts, items, gated tech?

The biggest tip I could give would be to ALWAYS test reactors in creative mode first, as long as you don’t mind that avenue. The material investment for good reactor systems is very high and it’s a real pain to rebuild them, and experimenting in your actual world will be highly expensive.

Second tip is ALWAYS wear the radiation suit if you’re doing ANYTHING related to nuclear. If you have Bibliocraft, use an armor stand to hold the suit at a convenient location BEFORE you get into radiation range so you can easily swap to it.
Tangential to this is to keep all your nuclear stuff sectioned away from your base if at all possible, especially if you want to get into high power reactors or breeding. Radiation range and severity scales based on how powerful your reactor is. A different dimension is ideal if you can manage it.
If you’re not confident in your reactor designs, it’s also wise to separate all the components a bit (reactor, boiler, turbine+dynamo). Just be mindful of chunk boundaries. Chunk load everything if possible.

For the actual reactor concepts, there’s too much to write in a single comment, so I’d suggest just reading through the reactor PDF that Eric(?) wrote (https://gregtech.overminddl1.com/1.7.10/gt6fission.pdf), as well as take a look at the fuel rod and coolant stat charts (Fuel rod stats in NEI - #4 by yangbowen). If you want a visual example, I have a few videos in my playthrough that show the general building concepts and basic operations of making a simple breeder reactor in survival that generates a respectable amount of power with basic uranium fuels (starting here: https://youtu.be/LfLgsPg1nhg)

That’s a great PDF! I’ll check out the video.
