I came by spawn to grab some bell pepper, and I left a stack of butter.
Many thanks B)
Now I have butter for days
The server is currently down for SSD replacement. It should be back up in the next day or two.
Server’s up! Unfortunately the SSD has been replaced by an old HDD temporarily. I’m currently shopping a new server rig to replace it.
I’ve setup an IRC bridge for the DD server. Game chat is now bridged to #devouringdarkness on Esper.net, where Greg’s channel is.
To improve performance while I’m building the new system, I’ve migrated the Minecraft server to full RAMDISK. Zoom!
RAM Disk? Yeah totally not related to you having to replace the SSD with a HDD XD
Yeah, the SSD was for speed and I didn’t have the RAM free at the time. That SSD was ancient (128G!), so no surprise. Now that I’m moving things, I have RAM free to throw at it.
So when will you show up on IRC again? pretty sure your Server kinda killed your instance XD
Esper.net SSL cert expired. Soon as they update, I’ll be on.
We’ve got four active bases currently, and room for several more.
Regarding the server age, DD is a pack rich with content. The server will stay online until no players login for over a month. Take your time, progress at your pace. I host on my dedicated home server, so it’s not going anywhere.
I will also make available the save on request after the server closes.
The server has been updated to Devouring Darkness v436! You must update to login.
Wait, v436? How many updates has DD had‽

First commit (v0!) in 2017 creating Happy Zombie Fun Land. This was the original hell pack. Destructive tornados rip up the world and you base. More mobs than any computer can handle.

That was Happy Zombie Fun Land’s last commit in 2017, v213.
In 2019 I started refactoring the pack to make it less hellish, and renamed it to Sad Zombie Land. Why? The zombies were sad they got nerfed.

To where we find ourselves today at v436.
Remember the version number is just the incrementing number of every commit, not always huge changes. I never used anything like semantic versioning, just the counter so I could track updates.
Fascinating bit of DD history, thanks
Updated the server to v438. This adds the Activators to help with farming!
Server was updated to v439 with the update to Special Mobs. It appears very stable, and I’ve been able to set it back to a single daily reboot. No more heap errors from particle buildup!
You didnt update GT6 though? aww
I actually updated that a few days ago. =P
I should push the GT update.
Server upgraded to v443.
