Alright I’m back!
Apparently no, being in a river biome at y:64 still sucks up any regular water sources in front of a pipe without replacing them.
Water from an infinite spring gets sucked up just as regular (updates and gets reformed as usual instead of not getting deleted like regular river water would) at y64 in a river biome.
